There’s a battle ship on the University of Arizona mall.
A new memorial to the USS Arizona was dedicated at the UA on Sunday, Dec. 4 after several months of hurried construction. The memorial, which marked the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, is unlike any other memorial. Fortunately, I had was assigned to cover this much-anticipated addition to my campus for the Arizona Daily Star. I had a special interest because my own grandfather served in the Pacific theater during WWII.
The main story about the memorial landed on the front page of the Sunday paper and the second section with extra info on the USS Arizona was featured in the Home and Life section.
I was incredibly pleased with the feedback I received on the story but after a day or so, I started looking forward to my next assignment. However, several days later I received an email from the host of The Not Old, Better Show, a successful podcast out of Washington D.C., looking to interview me about my story and the new monument.
I have embedded the podcast for those of you who are interested in listening. It was a wonderful experience and I had a great time! Thanks again to Paul Vogelzang for having me on your show!
